Community Stewardship
Throughout the year Watertown Apartments teams up with the Ronald McDonald House Charities-Eastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center and wonderful volunteers to give back to our beautiful land. This year we planted 140 trees across 2 acres of the Sanctuary Woods! Special thanks to Hope Tree Service for helping make this all possible!
Sanctuary Woods is a 66 acre hardwood forest of woodlands and wetlands covering a portion of the Milwaukee County Grounds, just North of Watertown Plank Rd.
The Milwaukee County Grounds were established over 150 years ago, and historically spanned over 1000 acres in all four quadrants surrounding I45 and Watertown Plank Road interchange.
These woods are a critical part of a connected ego-system including prairies and wetland, which provide unique habitat to several species the state of Wisconsin labels as “special concern”. Additionally, just like 150 years ago these woods and surrounding area still provide a natural sanctuary for people seeking an escape from existing urban development. It is possible to enter these woods and quickly feel completely isolated from any modern development.
